Right now, in my life, I don't have two things I really need in order to soak up a writer's state of mind: peace and quiet and a heartfelt routine.
However, on a smaller scale, I have a few quite evenings to myself while vacationing at my Aunt Judy's in lovely Santa Barbara. Since we don't exactly have a routine, writing is the one thing that anchors me, especially now when the boys have gone to bed and I have the laptop to myself.
What's nice having the year off is to explore other options with writing.I've followed through with a number of education markets and after little response and no work projects, I've decided to lower the expectation level.
As much as I want to crack the educational markets, perhaps the timing isn't quite right. Maybe I need to acquire a bit more experience with more small(er) projects.
While in NYC, I got smart and sent an email to an employer I did some contracting work. It wasn't steady enough to pay the bills, but it proved to be invaluable experience, which I found through Deborah Ng jobs boards. I'm hoping to build similar contacts.
So I'm at the job boards again (not hunting). I am hoping this year will bring more contacts and experience. Thankfully, suite 101 is still steady income and the ropes of learning it prove to be quite useful. Even if it doesn't pay the bills, it's still important experience.
How often do you seek out new projects? What serious projects does your timetable allow for? What job boards do you seek?
So far I've found the following job boards quite useful:
writersweekly.com
bloggerjobs.com
writingworld.com
online-writing-jobs.com/jobbank
WAHM.com/jobs.html
Happy Writing!
