Over the years, it has been easier for me to write in focus.
In writing, finding focus was a different story. My good ideas got eaten away by poor and awkward phrsing. Professors and teachers could not understand my garbled language in my term and seminar papers, [I'm ashamed by the writing of those days] and now as I reread them today, nor can I.
Prior to posting this blog entry, my mind toyed with a zillion and one ways with what would be the subject of this blog entry. [Writer's block is for wimps] After a few story books and hugs to my son, I lay beside him, my mind wandering again to a zillion different places. Since this is a blog of my journey of a writer, I wanted to keep to the spirit of different points that I'm sure all writers experience and not just me.
What do I really want to say?
Every time I feel clueless as to what brought me to thinking in the first place, I ask myself this question. It helps me narrow the possibilities. And it helped me again tonight.
I am the kind of person that I want to buy the entire candy store. In my roaring twenties, I wanted to experience everything so I did a bit of college, Israeli army, traveling, working. [It is no wonder I was born in the Year of the Dog... need to sniff around]
But now the time has come to buckle down in words and take responsibility for what it is I need (and want) to say.
And with a little faith, I am slowly getting there. The irony is that I was always there all the time only now, I am inspired by the journey and before, I was completely frustrated by how 'unfocused' was my writing.
Since my words are my bread and butter, they need to be as meaningful as life itself. And since my life now has a purpose, I am not so scared or intimidated by the journey of finding a focus. Actually, I view it as one sweet challenge.
Many writers have aided me in my journey to become a sharper clearer thinker and writer. The links are to the right of this blog under "Real Writers."
So, how far have you come as a writer in terms of finding focus? What are some of your finding focus stories? I would really love to hear some of your experiences.

Sometimes I find focus by walking or hiking. Doing something with my hands and letting my mind wander helps, too.
