Most people I know from abroad have heard of a kibbutz, but have never seen one. Our kibbutz has gone privatized for four years now, but it is still a great place to live. I know we will miss it when we go to the States next year so I am writing this testimony why I love it so much. Maybe it will give you all an idea of this place I call home for the last four years and how it has grown on me.
1…Nature is abound. We live in one of the most beautiful pieces of countryside in israel. The Galilee. There are weeping willows, huge fields, the Jordan River, the mountains in the distance. Being a New York City girl, this is the nature I missed growing up.Great opportunities for hiking.Nature gives us peace of mind.
2. Great place to raise kids (need I say more?)
3. Much clean(er) than an urban area.
4. Little pressure of city life.
5. All of life necessities are in one radius - from the supermarket, infirmary, babyhouse and kindergartens, to the nearby elementary and junior High School, post-office, laundry, dining room, dentist, bike shop, library, archives, teacher's room, pool. The neighboring synagogue is in Kibbutz Kfar Blum but we have never been there.
6. There is still a sense of community. I say 'still' because privitization has effected the way of life but, there are still caring and helpful souls here. Now with the new community being built, there is a more influx of younger people.
7. Parents don't have to compete with the 'temptations' of city life.
8.peace and quiet. It's like we are living on an island.
9. helpful neighbors. There are no young people in our section of our kibbutz but there are many kind souls around us.
10.I can bike to work leaving our car at home.(saves petrol and green friendly)
11. Ivry has a nice playground to play in and some communal friends to play with.Mommy can get to know new friends.
12. We have a beautiful house we renovated two years ago with a new flower budding garden.
13. There is a yummy Thai restaurant at the entrance of our kibbutz.

so what is a kibbutz??? i'm curious to know!!! great list for this week!
I know quite a few people who have lived in a kibbutz and I've seen lots of pics. It's a great way of living, very interesting.
Thanks for visiting my T13!
You make it sound so lovely. If our own kibbutz time had been more like that maybe we would have stayed... (on the kibbutz we were on when DH was in the army, not on yours).
It's great to see you enjoying the TT. Welcome aboard.
PS You forgot to leave your link on the Mr. Linkie thingie on my blog.
I think you gain so much when you live abroad as do your children. For my kids, living in Japan is the norm while visiting the US is the trip abroad. You can't look at the world the same when you've stepped outside and seen it from a different perspective. Soak up the memories in your last year.
Happy TT day. I'm up with 13 reasons spring is in the air.
Hmmm, sounds interesting and because no two places are the same, I'm sure you'll find someplace just as lovely when you move :-)
Thank you so much for sharing that with us. It sounds so beautiful!
Thanks for visiting my TT!
Hey, Dorit! I'm SO glad you stopped by West of Mars; I've got a soft spot for Israelis since The Tour Manager works for ECI (yeah, THAT ECI). Well, okay, we're Jewish, too. That helps.
The kibbutz sounds lovely. I'd love to see one. One day, we'll get over there. One day...
Hope you'll stop by more often.
