Now that I understand what is a freelance work-for-hire thanks to HSJ Writer my first stop blog. I am now at the point where I feel comfortable enough to send resumes and a cover letter to educational publishers. The house is pretty clean for Passover, and I'm sitting with my coffee in front of the computer. I am taking advantage of these upcoming two weeks to apply myself to the job markets, so that when we arrive in the States in the August, I will have gotten my feet a bit wetter and hopefully I will have made a little bit more money!
Although it's lovely to be on vacation, I am concerned how I will make it financially when I take my leave of absence next year from school. A manuscript won't get finished unless I write it, so I am busy trying to find markets for my ideas and translating some of my ideas to paper.
I consider myself quite lucky and grateful. I belong to a wonderful and resourceful writing community, and I have the teaching experience and educational credentials that publishers are indeed looking for. I need to be patient, let time take it course and wait...
I am getting cold feet with the proposal part. Maybe it is because I am finally learning how to connect to the soul that is responsible for driving my dreams and desires. After all, I am slowly drifting away from a comfortable 8am-2pm teaching job that has grown unto me (and my family) for the last twelve years.
Change is hard, especially when it involves redusting the dreams and desires and taking them off the shelf especially during this time of year - Passover vacation, when I am supposed to be on vacation.
An old colleague of mine, a teacher of Spanish in the States, kept in touch with me via emails before, during and after my Italy trip back in 2002 and succeeded in inspiring me and even more so now.
Four years later, my journey has brought me again to the written word with more passion and belief than ever before. I reread his words just prior to writing this blog entry. I believe what I am doing is meant to be, even though I am not 100% there yet.
Here are a few quotes by him ,which I reread from time to time:
"Your purpose in life is to experience all you can be in life. You create your own destiny by what you imagine it to be. Envision, envision, envision. the point is to Envision what you want, and how you want to feel. Also inspire yourself."
"Tenure (in teaching) is a nice commodity. But it shouldn't be used as a basis for allowing your creative juices to dry up your vocation. Life is an immense possibilities of experiences..."
And the last one..
"The moment we label an experience, we limit our full experience. Perhaps, that's why children are so beautiful masters of life...they experience life to the fullest -and truly live in joy regardless of the surrounding circumstances. Especially when they play in unity with others. Unfortunately, many "grown-ups" have forgotten their inner child - and along with it, the sense of wonder."
Very well said Jose. Sorry for the long post guys.Just had to let this one out.
